Twitter Questions

1.       What did you learn from Twitter? Think about the content that you gained from those you followed as well as what you learned about Twitter itself.

I feel like I have learned so much from Twitter. I feel so much more comfortable in some teaching areas because I know there are so many resources on Twitter that I never knew about before. This is a wonderful site to have as an educator and I LOVE any chance I get to collaborate with other teachers because I feel that we don’t get an opportunity to do that very often. I used to think that Twitter was more of just a social media website as far as a place where people went to let everyone know what they had for lunch that day etc. but I have learned that it is so much more useful than that.

2.       Who was the most interesting person or persons that you followed? Why? Be specific and provide examples

I honestly thought Mrs. Feldmann was very interesting to follow. I felt that you always had updates on websites and interesting technology pieces that you were currently learning at the time. I thought it was nice that everyone else could be updated on the things that you were learning as well and not even having to actually be at the meeting or conference.

3.       Do you think you’ll continue to use Twitter personally, professionally and/or both after this assignment is complete? Why or Why not?

I think that I will continue to use Twitter forever for professional reasons. I really don’t see myself using it for personal reasons. I really don’t get into the social media as much unless I can see a purpose for needing to know something or a way in which I can benefit from knowing it. This is the reason that I will continue to use Twitter because there are so many ways that I can use for educational and professional reasons.

iPads in the classroom

I attended a meeting yesterday that was lead by fellow teachers within our school and district. The meeting was on using iPads in the classroom. I was really looking forward to attending this meeting because I feel that iPads will be what all of the kids will have in school someday. I think it is important for us as teachers to get a jump on this so we are ready when that day comes. Also because there are so many useful apps out there for students to use now that can only help them. What I took away from this class was many interesting facts but most of all was the following website. http://www.interactioneducation.com/ipadsineducation.html
You should check it out!!

Week 7

What did you discover? After viewing Richard Byrne’s blog I realized that there are so many resources out there that I don’t even realize. I absolutely love his blog/site and can’t wait to share it with others. I really like the video creation resource tab that he had on his site. There were a lot of very useful resources to use when creating videos, I think this would also be useful for many of my students to use since we do a small unit on PowerPoint as well as making a youtube video. I also really like the Bubbly Ply information and tutorial on how to use it. Lots of wonderful information!!

What would be useful in your classroom? As stated earlier the information and tips on video creation. I think the kids will really benefit from this site and not just myself.  There is also a website suggested called Dance Mat typing that would be great for the students to use since I do a lot of keyboarding skills in my classroom.

Could you make a blog that would be a great resource for your students? I think I could make a blog that would be a great resource for my students. There are a lot of typing and keyboarding sites out there that the students could use if they wanted to practice at home. I would also like to put some screenr videos on my site so when students are gone or if they don’t understand the steps the first time they can watch the video for more practice or to make up anything they missed if they were gone.

What are your thoughts? I thought this was a wonderful thing and am very excited that I know about it now. I am going to tell some of my coworkers about this site because I think there are a few that would really benefit from this site, depending on their core area.

Animoto Video

I really enjoyed making this animoto video and thought it was a lot of fun! I think this video program can be used in many, many ways in the classroom. It offers students a chance to learn something that will draw their attention a little more and when they get the chance ot make one themselves they get a chance to be very creative about what they have learned.

Article Review - Ashley Huppert

The article that I chose to do my multimedia project on was called "The instructional power of digital games, social networking, and simulations and how teachers can leverage them. This was a very long article but I found myself not being able to put it down as it was very interesting. Teachers today are constantly trying to find ways to involve as many ways to use technology as possible and this article talks about some very engaging ways to get students involved with the curriculum.
Hope you enjoy!

Intro - Huppert

My name is Ashley Huppert. I grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska where I attended Lincoln Public Schools from Kindergarten through my senior year of high school. After graduation I moved to Kansas City where I attended college and then decided to transfer to Peru State my junior year and finish up with my bachelors degree. I met my husband at Peru. We were marrried a little over two years ago and we have a 6 month old son who is SOOO much fun!  I enjoy sports and love any kind of competition. After Peru I accepted a job in Iowa teaching grades 5 through 12 with 7 preps!!! I was also the head girls varsity basketball coach, head boys and girls golf coach, prom sponsor, yearbook advisor and started a Business Professionals of America (BPA) group. This was an interesting first year challenge for me and I am very glad that I got the experience to be a part of so many things. I taught at this school for four years and decided to move closer to home and my husband’s job also required us to move. I accepted a job in Fremont, Nebraska working with the middle school students. This was a BIG change for me, but definitely a good change! I went from having six to seven preps to only one prep throughout the day. We also got a chance to purchase our first house and move closer to family, so this was a very exciting change for us.

I am a business teacher and feel like I have worked a fair amount with technology as some of the classes I have taught have been computer courses. Our current principal really enjoys technology and is constantly thinking of new technology ideas for our building, which is GREAT! Some of the technology that I have used in the classroom includes Elmos, Smart Boards, the last school I was at was a one-to-one school so each student and teacher had their own Macbook, Office, PowerSchool and so on. I would have to say that if I could choose between a Mac or a PC I would choose a PC. I personally like them much better, I know there are many people out there that think Macs are much better then PCs. I probably wouldn’t argue with someone about which one is better and why but I just like using PCs better then Macs and they seem like they are much more compatible with everything else out there.  Some of the technology that I use in the classroom is COWS (computers on wheels), MicroType, TypingWeb, Elmo, Smartboard, PowerTeacher, MS Office 2007.

I was inspired to pursue my Masters at PSC for multiple reasons. I chose Peru because I felt comfortable with the school since I received my Bachelors from Peru I thought that I would be familiar with the way the school operates, as well as the fact that all of the classes are offered online. I probably would have no way of getting my masters for a quite a few years if it was not offered online. I was really sparked to complete it at Peru because of all of the technology classes that are offered. I really wanted to take as many technology related courses as I could. I feel that it is very important that I am updated on current technology because I am the business/computer teacher. Also as I stated earlier, our building principal really likes to keep the building updated on current technology so I thought it would be a great way to relay a lot of information that might be beneficial to the school and all of the teachers. After receiving my degree I plan to continue my education with TigerU classes which are offered through our school district. They are classes which offer professional development credit and give you “credit” as a college would that only apply in your district.
